Leading our annual review of books of interest to small shop woodworking professionals is one product that isn't really a book at all. It's an entire woodworking course. Joining it are more conventional books on industrial finishing and essential facts and formulas for woodworkers.
Building Frameless Kitchen Cabinetmaking Course by Danny Proulx, Rideau Cabinets, Russell, Ont., 242 pp., spiral bound instructor's manual with CD-ROM plus the paperback book Building Frameless Kitchen Cabinets (144 pp),
Following the success of his popular book Building Frameless Kitchen Cabinets , Danny Proulx has capitalized on his experience teaching cabinetmaking in a Canadian community college to develop an entire curriculum for a college-level cabinetmaking course. The course uses Proulx's previously released book as a text, but the curriculum package he has developed goes way beyond that. There is an instructor's manual that guides teachers through a PowerPoint presentation of more than 400 slides covering 18 lessons that progress logically through the training steps Proulx has developed with his own students. The PowerPoint presentation is part of a CD-ROM in the curriculum kit, which also includes more than two dozen color exploded view illustrations of cabinets and other drawings related to the course. There are also sample student exams. The presentation, like that of Proulx's original book, is straightforward and clear. One of the things we especially like about the course is the inclusion of lots of basic business information. Graduates of this curriculum will not only have a clear understanding of how to construct frameless 32mm cabinetry, but they will also get the basics of what it takes to build a kitchen cabinet business.
Thank you for sending me your newly published teaching material on 32mm Frameless Cabinets. I have been thinking about switching our Production Class cabinets to 32mm. One of the things that has been holding me back is the lack of technical information on how to build 32mm cabinets. Your teaching package has all the info I would need to make the switch. I also teach a small amount of the business side of woodworking. I loved your business plan overview, it will be very helpful in class.
